The Government is planning to allow for the first time the commercial planting of GM crops on British soil. Up to now the issue has been about imports of GM ingredients for food production. Now comes the deliberate introduction of GM plants into the farming of animal and human food - a completely new departure in Britain, which could have irreversible outcomes.

The long-term consequences for the environment, for other farming practices and for future generations is
unknown. The science is frequently argued as a new dawn for humanity, but the fingerprints of commercial profit are all over it.

At this crucial and historic moment we must all make our views known.

The debate took place on Friday 27th June 2003. in the Forest Row Village Hall.
